How the environment shapes microbial–host communication?

ilustracao_oval (1).png

Environmental exposures across the lifespan shape human health by remodeling the gut microbiome and its interaction with host barrier, immune, and metabolic systems. Factors such as mode of delivery, diet, stress, and infection influence microbial composition and function, altering how the host senses and responds to microbial signals. Our research focuses on defining the mechanisms by which environmental factors modulate these microbial–host interactions.

How do microbial signals influence brain health?

Microbial-derived signals act on the nervous system through immune, metabolic, neural, and endocrine pathways, shaping brain health, and disease across the lifespan. Our work investigates how the environment shape microbial signaling across the gut-brain axis. By combining experimental models, human studies, and computational approaches, we aim to translate these insights into preventive and therapeutic strategies.
